Saint John Counselling

The Stigma around Mental Health

The stigma surrounding mental health is a prevalent issue in many communities around the world and that doesn’t exclude our community here in  Saint John, New Brunswick. It is a barrier that prevents individuals from seeking help for mental health conditions.

Stigma can be caused by a lack of knowledge, misconceptions, and negative stereotypes about mental illness. The result is that many people who are struggling with mental health conditions suffer in silence, which can lead to more severe problems and a decreased quality of life. We believe Saint John Counselling is the solution for those who desire a confidential and trusting process, enabling people to step into therapy at their own pace. Going to counselling when you feel something is off is the 1st step in breaking the stigma.

Saint John is taking strides

The city of Saint John, New Brunswick, has recognized the importance of mental health and has been working to provide its residents with the necessary resources and support to address mental health issues. Social Supports New Brunswick outlines a variety of resources available to residents of this province, including but not limited to 211 (free helpline), Bridge the Gapp (online resource), The Hype for Wellness Helpline (a 24-hour crisis phone line – 1-855-242-3310), as well as access to free counselling and psychiatric care through the New Brunswick Addictions and Mental Health Service.

Consequently, this stigma is being challenged, and the city is making great strides in breaking it down.

Kingsway Counselling is playing a role in this process. Our clinic (located in Simply for Life building on Rothesay Ave) offers a wide range of mental health services to residents of Saint John and surrounding areas, including individual counselling (depression and anxiety counselling, trauma therapy, PTSD therapy, Life Transition therapy), child therapy, marriage/couples counselling and family counselling.

Saint John Counselling – The Benefits

One of the significant benefits we offer at Kingsway Counselling are services to people of all ages, from children to seniors. The clinic recognizes that mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. Therefore, our team of mental health professionals specialize in different areas of mental health, ensuring that everyone can get the help they need.

In addition, Kingsway Counselling offers sliding scale fees to ensure that mental health services are accessible to all residents of Saint John, regardless of their financial situation. This is crucial in a city where many people may not have access to mental health services due to financial constraints.

The clinic also provides a safe and welcoming space for individuals to talk about their mental health concerns without fear of judgment. This is essential in breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health, as individuals who feel safe and accepted are more likely to seek help when needed.

Support Mental Health

Overall, Saint John is setting a great example for other cities in breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health. With Kingsway Counselling providing much-needed mental health services to the community, residents can feel confident in seeking help for their mental health concerns. It is essential that we continue to support mental health initiatives in our communities to ensure that everyone has access to the resources and support they need to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
